About GarageWise: Who We Are and How We Work
What GarageWise covers, how we research garage floors, car lifts, heaters and storage, and how the site makes money without selling recommendations.
GarageWise exists because most garage upgrade advice stops at “it depends.” A floor coating, a car lift or a garage heater is a one-time purchase that costs hundreds to thousands of dollars, and the right answer usually comes down to a few numbers: square footage, slab condition, ceiling height, circuit size. This site gives those numbers, shows the math, and names who each option is not for.
What does GarageWise cover?
GarageWise is an independent editorial site for homeowners upgrading their own garage. It covers five areas:
- Floors: epoxy and polyaspartic coatings, DIY kits versus pro installs, interlocking tiles and mats, and what each costs per square foot.
- Car lifts: 2-post, 4-post and portable lifts for a home garage, and the ceiling, slab and power each one needs. The car lift ceiling fit checker runs the height math with real lift and vehicle specs.
- Heat and insulation: electric, infrared, propane and natural gas garage heaters, sizing, and garage door insulation kits.
- Storage: cabinets, slatwall, and overhead racks and lifts.
- Doors and layout: wall-mount (jackshaft) openers and standard garage dimensions.
What does GarageWise not cover?
We leave some garage topics alone on purpose. Garage door spring, cable and track repair is dangerous work for a trained technician, so we do not publish repair instructions. We do not publish electrical wiring, gas piping or venting steps, or lift anchoring procedures: those guides stop at “follow the manual, local code and a licensed pro.” We do not cover local services, garage construction, or ductless heat pumps for garages.
How are picks made?
Specs first. Every product claim comes from the maker’s spec sheet or manual, with the month we read it. When two sources disagree, we say so.
Prices carry a date. Prices are US dollars with the month and year they were checked, because coating kits, heaters and lifts are repriced often.
No invented testing. We do not claim hands-on reviews we did not do. A pick is a reasoned choice from published specs and owner reports, and each guide says what it is based on.
Trade-offs are named. No product is right for every garage, so every recommendation says who should skip it.
Who writes GarageWise?
Guides are written and maintained by the GarageWise editorial team. The byline is the team rather than an invented persona, because a name with no real expertise behind it would tell you nothing.
Is GarageWise only for the US?
The research is US-based: prices are in US dollars, product availability reflects US retailers, and electrical notes assume US 120V and 240V circuits. The translated guides keep the same facts and flag where a reader in Europe or Latin America should check local voltage, standards (such as EN 1493 for vehicle lifts in Europe) and availability.
How does the site make money?
Reader support: some links are affiliate links that pay us a commission at no extra cost to you. Recommendations are chosen before affiliate status is checked, and plenty of our picks earn us nothing. The full policy is in the affiliate disclosure.
Corrections and requests
We would rather be corrected than confidently wrong. If a spec, price or claim here does not match what you see, tell us and we will check it against the source.
Frequently asked questions
Quick answers to what readers ask us most
Is GarageWise affiliated with any manufacturer, retailer or installer?
No. GarageWise is independent. Where products differ, we describe the differences and name the trade-offs rather than picking sponsors, and we do not sell leads to installers.
Does GarageWise test the products it recommends?
We do not run a test garage, and we will not pretend to. Picks are based on published specifications, manufacturer documentation, dated prices and patterns in owner reports, and each guide says which of those it relied on.
How does GarageWise make money?
Some product links earn an affiliate commission at no extra cost to you, disclosed wherever it applies. Commissions never decide a recommendation.
Can I submit a correction?
Please do. Spec sheets change and prices move, and corrections and topic requests shape our publishing queue.
